"My progress since starting to work with Mel has been substantial"
I suffered an unfortunate accident a year and a half ago that left me with a knee injury. I have had many appointments with both doctors and physiotherapists and while these professionals have all helped me during the journey to recovery, it wasn't until I started going to Mel at Stride PEI that I felt I may actually be able to recover.
The accident caused a number of problems to my body, many of which one cannot see simply by looking at me. Mel has been helping 'reprogram my body' and my mind in terms of movement. She has an amazing understanding of how each body movement can have an affect on another area of the body and we are working on adjusting my body movements to aid in the healing process.
My progress since starting to work with Mel has been substantial. When I first started my training sessions, I could not do a squat (let alone a proper one). Now, a few months later, I can say that, not only can I do a squat, but I can do weighted squats.
My muscles are getting stronger, my confidence is growing, and my body is learning how to move correctly again.
If you are wondering if Stride is the right place for you...I would say, YES! Yes, indeed it is! Mel and the community she has created are supportive, motivating, and friendly. And Mel herself, well, she is amazing. Her knowledge, guidance, and assistance have literally given me the gift of hope.
"I knew right away she had the educated approach I was looking for"
I dislocated my knee cap two years ago and had had a very difficult time rehabbing this injury. After many months of different therapies, I knew I needed to work on gradually strengthening my knee, but I was worried about overdoing it and re-injuring it.
I did some research to find a trainer that would be a good fit for me and through the recommendations from four different friends I was lucky enough to find Mel at Stride. Like me, Mel had experienced a debilitating knee injury, so she understood the toll that an injury can take not only on your body, but also on your mind. She really listened to what I wanted and also to what my fears were. Mel gave me honest feedback about what she could help me with and described her approach.
I knew right away that she had the educated approach I was looking for. I have been working with her for several months now and have noticed a change in my everyday movements, improved strength and balance.
One-on-one sessions with Mel are fun and tailored to my needs (right down to the music!). I would highly recommend working with Mel if you are struggling to recover from an injury that is dogging you!
"Out of all the other different therapy, exercise programs and direction/advice from others, I feel so lucky that I was finally put in touch with Mel"
Seven years ago I suffered a life altering injury to my right knee in the course of my duties as a Police Officer. Since then, I have undergone 8 surgeries, including 2 replacements, an infection and extensive physiotherapy with a number of different therapists. During this time period I have developed considerable muscle atrophy in both legs and continue to suffer with daily swelling, pain and limited range of motion. I am due to have a third replacement in January 2020.
A close friend of mine, who had suffered a knee injury, told me that she had been going to a personal trainer (Mel at Stride PEI) and the results she had achieved were incredible over a short period of time. At this point I knew I had nothing to lose by contacting Mel and to sit down with her and see what she could offer me to help prepare for the upcoming surgery. Mel listened as I explained my past and came up with a plan to try to achieve the goal put in place by the Surgeon in Halifax regarding my upcoming replacement.
Within a month Mel took me from not being able to complete a full squat to doing sets of squats with weights, lunges, one leg balancing and the list goes on. After one month you can already see the considerable difference in the muscles in my lower body.
Out of all the different therapy, exercise programs and directions/advise from others I feel so lucky that I was finally put in touch with Mel. To me the difference in my lower body is incredible in such a short time. After seeing the changes in my legs, I am 100% more confident going into this next surgery.
